Ooooops - belated March Update :)

On an Easter break at the moment but I decided to leave my Etsy shop open as it's very early days to close it a the moment!

First day of the Easter hols and our cat was enjoying some Easter rays . . . this is her first Easter as she is not quite a year old :) . . . .

I think she might have been posing for this photo :)

I'm really enjoying making some more tweed collage items - this time a decorative soft sculpture - sleepy owl appeared last month (magically!) on a branch of a tree outside ;-) . . .

He's available to order in my Etsy shop here.

I'm delighted that my hand embroidered sheep buttons are available to purchase on this lovely website.

I hope to make another collage i-phone sleeve soon as this one sold this week . . .

Lovely to be using these earthy tweed colours and patterns :)

I'll do another update at the end of the month - Cheerio an Drasda!

A little shift in location . . . to Etsy!

A little recap on some new items I've been making - all of which are now for sale in my Etsy shop.

I've loved making some collage 'tweedie' purses - it was just an idea which I wanted to experiment with having made collage pictures before.  I think they worked out quite nicely - sheep seem to be an ongoing theme!

The little tractor was an afterthought - but I thought it was quite fun!

A smaller, simplified version (but also with sheep added) . . . or should that be 'added sheep'!

I do hope to be making some more fabric covered buttons like these ones . . .

The ones above are currently in the shop to be joined by some more soon!  (when I physically remove myself away from the laptop!)

Here's to some brighter, longer days to improve my photography - ooops :)  Apologies for the slightly dark images - I can only improve :)

I have a few more 'sheep' buttons so you might see some more small pouches appearing soon.  Better get cracking!

All of the above items are in the shop now :)

Bye for now :)

New Products for 2016 :)

A much delayed start to blogging life - but not much delay in crafting!  It didn't take long after the festive season before I was desperate to get the tweed and yarn out again :)  Holidays are all very nice but they do get in the way of my crafting - ssssshhhhhh, don't tell the family I said that :) :)

Here's a clutch/evening bag I'd made before the festivities which I finally got round to listing in the shop at the weekend.  It's lightly padded so would be prefect for carrying any valuables: cosmetics, phone, jewelery, etc.  I had some fun with my vintage buttons and some doily lace . . .

I love this simple herringbone tweed - such a nice backdrop for some quirky vintage embellishments!

A closer image . . . .

I used one of my Japanese designer cotton fabrics for a contrast inner lining . . .

I think it has images of vintage stamps - I'd have to go and have another look!, but I liked the colours against the rich Harris Tweed.  Something a little different anyway - it measures approx 9 inches x 5.5 inches.  It's available to purchase in the shop, for immediate despatch :)

On the 'yarn' front I started to play around with some ideas for knitted i-Phone 6 sleeves.  Having achieved the right sizing for my 'tweedie' versions, I couldn't resist having a go at a 'fair-isle' knitted version.  I used some acrylic yarn as I have a nice selection of colours available.  I was quite pleased with the result!

The woven texture of fair isle knitting gives the fabric a bit of extra density without adding bulk - perfect padding for your i Phone!  Very labour intensive to make but so enjoyable too - I like the contrast of using this traditional knitting technique for a very modern use!  Who says a phone can't have its own fair isle sweater, hehe :) . . .

I added this first one to the shop with the intention of making more of these - so many possibilities! . . .

Slimline styling, but very cosy! . . .

. . . and of course a cute vintage button to add a little interest!

Made to order versions of this particular style may be on the cards as I think it would be lovely in different colour combinations.  I'll keep you updated through my blog!  This one's available now :)

Cheerio an Drasda - it's back to crafting as usual, hurray!

A new blog

This blog is purely to support and give additional information on my handmade creations which are for sale on my website:  www.handmadeonthecroft.co.uk.  I will also be trying to add some items to my Etsy Shop: Yarns on the Croft. (stock yet to be added).   You can click on the images on the sidebar to visit either online shop.  My website gives full details on my home-based craft business in the Outer Hebrides.

I will be writing regular blog updates here when new items are added to my online shops, or if I have any other relevant craft business updates :)  If you want to read more rambling, crafty, nitty-gritty 'knit one, purl one' updates I will still be updating my personal craft blog:  Tweed Thoughts. There - clear as mud!!!

Cut to the chase, some new iPhone 6 Harris Tweed sleeves added to the shop this week.  A lovely work colleague requested one for her new phone - it turned out so nice I thought I'd make some more so here they are . . .

Lined in Kaffe Fasset designer cotton fabric lining, with light padding to protect your precious iPhone :)

Bye for now,
